September Newsletter Update

MESSAGE FROM BUSINESS MANAGER, SCOTT HOLLERUD

Our fall outage season is upon us.  I hope everyone has had a great summer and got to spend time with friends and family.  We have just indentured a new class with 27 Apprentices.  Please watch out for these new Boilermakers if you see them on the jobsite.

Wendlin and I recently returned from the MOST Convention in San Diego.  It was worthwhile and we were able to spend time with several national contractors that work in our area.  The emphasis was on growing the IBB and communication.  GLAA negotiations are still ongoing. Also, we are currently in the process of updating our website.

July of 2026 is the IBB Constitutional Convention.  We have set up a Resolutions Committee consisting of Dylan Rangeloff, Rich Zeman, Max Bowers, Jessica Bruneau, and myself.  We will be accepting resolutions from October 1, 2025 through December 1, 2025.  Resolutions are proposed language changes to our Constitution.  Please contact any of these committee members with your resolutions.

On a sad note, in the past few months we have had current and past members commit suicide.  No one had any idea they were suffering.  PLEASE check on your friends and family and ask how they are doing.  There is help available: 988 is the National Suicide and Crisis Hotline, MD live for Cigna is 800-235-7748, Boilermakers Substance treatment Program is 877-244-3572, Brightside Health is 415-360-3348.  You can also text HOME or HOLA to 741741 to reach a live volunteer Crisis Counselor.  Suicide is an epidemic within the Boilermakers as well as the construction industry.  We are losing too many brothers and sisters to suicide.

A reminder to everyone that contractors can still have a ZERO tolerance policy for THC even though it is legal in Minnesota.  Keep that in mind as you are dispatched for jobs.

Please take the time during this fall outage season and review your pay stubs to make sure everything is correct.  It is a lot easier to deal with issues right away rather than waiting.

If you are looking for apparel, hoodies, hats, T-shirts, etc. please go to our website and scroll to the link under 647 Apparel Store on the main page to order what you want.

Have a SAFE outage season!
