MESSAGE FROM BUSINESS MANAGER, LUKE VOIGT

We hope everyone is enjoying the summer. Work has been very busy with several jobs over the summer. Mesabi continues to be the largest draw for staffing. The fall outage season is right around the corner. Please make sure you’re ready to go to work soon if you aren’t on a job currently. Apprentice classes are in full swing and the training centers are busy. We recently were notified that Max Bowers and Nate Rinerson were approved to be MSHA instructors, please watch for notices of upcoming MSHA classes. We do have a considerable amount of work upcoming in the mines throughout the fall and winter. Also, we have a good size turn around coming up soon at the Marathon Refinery in St. Paul Park, MN and TWIC cards will be required. Please take some time to make sure your TWIC is current and/or apply for a new one if needed. TWIC cards are reimbursable through the MORE fund, just keep your receipt and get it to the lodge for reimbursement.

We have been meeting with several of our utilities and contractors about projected build out of power generation across our Local’s jurisdiction. The future need for our trade is overwhelming and the next decade will be busier than many of us have ever seen. We will be ramping up our recruiting and Apprenticeship to build the needed workforce for this massive buildout. If you know anyone you think would be a good addition to our organization, please have them reach out to the halls and/or contact Dylan Rangeloff directly.

Scott had a meeting with the Vacation Fund and they have a lot of unclaimed checks. Give them a shout to see if you have a check waiting for you. The local continues to look into options for a local vacation fund which will be administered through a bank in the cities, we will continue to have updates throughout the fall.

Congratulations to our new Trustees, Nate Rinerson and Chet Wahl. Nate has also started as our new Assistant Business Manager; you can reach Nate at 218-410-7565. His email is [email protected]. Scott will be staying on at the Local as an Assistant Business Manager. Thanks for your dedication and service to the Local.

You can also text HOME or HOLA to 741741 to reach a live volunteer Crisis Counselor. Suicide is an epidemic within the Boilermakers as well as the construction industry.

We are losing too many brothers and sisters to suicide. We all need to be and do better for each other. The Local is pursuing professional training to help educate everyone in better ways to be aware of potential mental health distress signs and how to approach and handle those situations and get people referred to places to get help.

Lastly, please take the time and review your pay stubs to make sure everything is correct. It is a lot easier to deal with issues right away rather than waiting.
